The roots of Château Meyney, which dates back to a former convent, go back to the 17th century. Many consider the 50-hectare winery in the heart of the Médoc to be the flagship of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, even though it was not taken into account in the 1855 classification that is still valid today.
The vines, which are on average 35 to 40 years old, grow on gravelly alluvial soils not far from the banks of the Gironde; the subsoil is characterized by blue clay with a high iron content. This gives the wines of the traditional house their very own terroir note. Anne Le Naour, who runs the winery today and her consulting oenologist Hubert de Bouärd also unerringly developed this. The cuvée made from 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 40 percent Merlot is powerful, tightly woven and very expressive. It exudes a stimulating, almost opulent scent of smoky dark berries.
and stone fruit, lots of spicy notes unfold in the background - licorice, incense, wet gravel are heard. Very elegant in the finish, despite all the intensity this wine has nothing heavy. This is Saint-Estèphe at a high level and once again Château Meyney shows its greatness. A very impressive Médoc.
