Viu Manent Gran Reserva Chardonnay is made from grapes grown in Casablanca Valley and is refreshing and silky with good balance and a vibrant acidity after a few months in French oak.

Full tasting note and wine making

Viu Manent Gran Reserva Chardonnay from Casablanca Valley in Chile has an intense, complex combination of aromas of white and exotic fruits, floral notes, hazelnut, and toffee. The creamy palate is well balanced, fresh, and fruity, with subtle toasted notes that lend complexity that draws out to an intense, elegant, and persistent finish. 15% of this wine is fermented in oak and it is all aged in French oak barrels for seven months.
The Gran Reserva wines are made using grapes from a specially selected vineyard site located in the Casablanca Valley and the vines are on average 15 years old. Viticulture in the Valley is possible largely because of the oceanic influence where warm summer days, cool night combined with sea breezes and fog ensure the grapes develop slowly attaining full ripeness.

The producer

Viu Manent was founded in 1935 by Miguel Viu Garcia and his sons Agustin and Miguel Viu Manent. They are one of the longest established producers in the region and own their own vineyards in Colchagua including the Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco bought in 1966. The estate included 150 hectares of noble, pre-phylloxera vines.
The Colchagua Valley is located in the south of the Rapel Valley in central Chile is 140 kilometres south of Santiago and is one of Chile’s most well-known wine regions particularly for full-bodied red wines. The vineyards benefit from cool seas breezes and sharp diurnal temperature differences which help to retain acidity and freshness which allows the red grapes to develop slowly improving their flavour and colour. Historically vineyards were planted on the gentler slopes but newer plantings are on steeper gradients. Viu Manent’s San Carlos vineyard is located here. Viu Manent wines are made with estate grown grapes from their own properties in the Colchagua Valley and ten percent of the white grapes come from selected Casablanca Valley vineyards, a cool coastal region.
