The grapes for this single-varietal Tempranillo develop expressive aromas reminiscent of blackberries and cherries due to extreme climatic conditions. The juicy fruit is accompanied by delicate spicy notes and restrained acidity. Softly the wine plays around the palate and ends in the finish with a touch of leather.
Sandy soils, boulders and ungrafted vines (pre-phylloxera)... This is Toro; a region of ancestral viticulture and very poor soils, neighbouring Ribera del Duero. Today there are many producers who bet on this region, but in 1998 the Telmo Rodriguez Company was among the first to launch an original wine from Toro, its Dehesa Gago, from vineyards leased to winegrowers with whom it maintains a close relationship. Emblematic and renowned wineries such as Vega Sicilia, Mauro or Lurton now have a second property in Toro, where they make great wines, full-bodied and dense wines. Dehesa Gago is freshly released and offers a beautiful violet colouring power and, on the nose, it delights us with delicious black fruits. It is a wine that ignores wood and satisfies the palate with a juicy, fun and, of course, enormously fresh feel. A phenomenal demonstration of a Toro wine that is full-bodied and fruity but without forgetting that dynamic, Atlantic feel. The little rough spots that we can find when it has just been released are due to its recent bottling. A little time and aeration always come in handy.
