This Riesling shows the mineral side of this varietal. We always expect Joel Gott to produce, and although this wine is not exactly typical, it is still by any means all right. The color is pure golden. The nose could be confused for a German Riesling. There is a quite atypical for the New World 50-50 tie of fruit and non fruit tastes across the palate. The fruit is peach with citrus. There is just a touch of that oily feeling and taste. By far the most dominant flavor is the sharp, almost raw malic acid that really coats the palate. Pretty big mouth feel. Long finish with some unripe gooseberry, unripe apple, and maybe some ligon berry. Totally dry, in more than one way, this wine is begging for cheese.
