Citrus fruits originally come from hot, tropical Southeast Asia. They found their way to Europe in the luggage of early globetrotters and spread to the Mediterranean and Spain as early as the first century AD. Due to the warm temperatures, the trees were able to thrive here and their fruits became an integral part of the local cuisine: No matter whether you are in the south of Italy, on the Greek islands or on the mainland of Spain - the lemon and all its sour relatives are no more to think away. We use it to refine cakes and pastries, give sauces and dressings a lemony kick of freshness, and use the peel, juice and pulp.

Brewers also love the lively brews. Lemon, lime and orange harmonize wonderfully with various types of hops and give the beer a bright fruitiness and a slight acidity. A particularly refreshing brew with an extra citrus ingredient comes from Stone Brewing: Their Delicious Citrus IPA contains freshly grated orange zest, which has been combined with the hop varieties Amarillo, Talus and El Dorado to create a sunny spectacle.

The citrus-accented drop brings the juicy sweetness of orange, tart grapefruit notes, hints of white wine and a fruity trio of pineapple, white strawberries and raspberries into the glass and envelops the palate with a thick, creamy texture. The impressive 7.7% alcohol content is cleverly integrated into the taste.
