It is similar to the patis in the Philippines, ketjap-ikan in Indonesia, ngapi in Burma, nuoc mam in Vietnam, shirt or shottsuru in Japan, Colombo-cure in India and Pakistan, yeesu in China, and inkjet in Korea.
