Château de Domaine de l'Eglise is the oldest château with vineyards in Pomerol. Stylish wines are made at this relatively small 6-hectare estate. The 2013 is spicy, powerful, complex and complete. The spicy, herbaceous notes of the ageing on partially new (65%) barriques stand out in the nose. The unctuousness of soaked black plum and a pleasant vegetal tone is added on the spicy palate. The structure is soft with a bite from ripe tannins. The finish is long. This wine of 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc is made under the direction of Philippe Castéja, the president of Borie-Manoux. This trading house, which is still one of the few family businesses in Bordeaux, owns a number of châteaux including Grands Crus and Crus Bourgeois domains.
